Dr Sareh Rowlands
Senior Lecturer
Computer Science
Sareh Rowlands is a Senior Lecturer in Data Science within the vibrant Computer Science Department, specialising in the exciting areas of computer vision and machine learning. In the field of medical diagnosis, Sareh dedicates her efforts to advancing deep learning techniques to improve the detection of damage and abnormalities in medical imaging. From spotting fractures in X-ray images to diagnosing Alzheimer's disease using MRI scans and detecting colorectal cancer in histopathology images. Venturing into the realm of robotics, Sareh focuses on developing innovative approaches for understanding egocentric video and anticipating future actions. This research is paving the way for the creation of intelligent wearable agents that can assist humans in various tasks, enhancing productivity and safety in diverse settings.
Her interest in environmental intelligence leads her to explore the intersection of machine learning and computer vision in analysing ecological data. From classifying species in camera trap images to mapping habitats and exploring ecological structures. In collaboration with Intelligent AI, Sareh leads a project aimed at extracting geometric information from satellite imagery to estimate insurance values for buildings. This partnership combines cutting-edge technology with practical applications, addressing real-world challenges in collaboration with industry experts.
