Mr Gonçalo Leiria

Gonçalo is a bioinformatician by training and a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Exeter. Currently, he is working at the intersection of research software engineering, microsimulation development, multi-objective optimisation and web development, with a focus on decision analytic modelling in healthcare.
Previously, he worked as a bioinformatician, mainly involved in projects utilising single-cell RNA sequencing data analysis to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms of health, development, and disease.
Gonçalo is an advocate of open science and reproducible research, and emphasises the value of best software engineering practices, with a strong commitment to the FAIR principles—ensuring research outputs are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
