Abdelkhalik (Abdo) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science. He gained his PhD and MSc in Computer Science from the University of Manchester in 2019 and 2014, respectively, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
He has substantial experience in designing and delivering innovative Computer Science curricula and assessments, with teaching expertise across machine learning, data analytics, databases, computer networks, cyber security, distributed systems, cloud computing, and web and cross-platform mobile development.
His research interests span applied artificial intelligence, distributed systems and Computer Science education. He is especially interested in using AI to address real-world challenges in areas including cloud and edge computing, drones, wearable health technologies, and higher education. He is also interested in self-managing distributed systems and in the use of AI to improve student engagement, retention and success.
