Overview

Bio

I am currently a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Department of Computer Science, University of Exeter, and a Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for Data Science and AI. I am also a visiting researcher with the Urban Analytics Programme at the Turing, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick. Prior to that I did my postdoctoral research at the Turing, working on the Shocks and Resilience project with Prof. Mark Birkin, where I developed systematic approaches to model the COVID-19 pandemic and assist decision-making in the post-pandemic world, e.g. balancing economy recovery with the potential rise of infection rate. I received both my PhD and BSc (1st class) degrees in Computer Science at the University of Warwick.

  Research interests

My research interests lie at the intersection of Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Spatio-temporal Analysis. I am passionate about developing innovative ML/AI systems and new methodologies to better understand the intricate spatial-temporal dynamics of urban environments. In particular, my work focuses on the modelling, analysis and inference of the complex processes, structures, interactions, and evolution of our cities as they unfold across space and time. Harnessing the vast amount of urban data, my research aims to equip stakeholders with novel AI/ML tools to tackle some of the most pressing and critical urban challenges, including mobility, resource management, environmental sustainability and public health. In the long term, my research drives towards the goal of building data-centric cities that are much smarter, more sustainable and resilient than ever, ultimately minimising their environmental footprints while enhancing the quality of life for all inhabitants at the global scale.

I am always looking for self-motivated PhD/visiting students. Please drop me an email with your CV if you are intereted in joining my reseaech group.
